3 Rooms to Consider Adding to Your House

When you move to a new place, you want to make it your own, and remodeling is a great way to do that. Adding a room to your house can not only add dollar value to your home, but it can create a space you and your family can enjoy on a daily basis. Game rooms and sunrooms both offer places of relaxation after a hard day’s work, while a mudroom is a practical solution to keeping shoes and backpacks out of sight and out of mind. Here are a few more reasons why adding these three rooms to your new house is a good idea.

Game Room

According to Faux Direct, the reasons for adding a game room range from the perfect spot to entertain friends and family to having a space separate from the living area to unwind after the end of a long day. Nothing is nicer than having a separate space for fun and games. Any unused space in the home can be turned into a game room, but many prefer to use a basement. Attics and extra bedrooms also will work. If creating a game room from unused space, costs can be as minimal as a coat of paint, some fun décor and possibly a pool table. However, if the space is unfinished, such as a basement, expect to spend $10,000–$30,000 for a 1,000-square foot space. Even so, the benefits of having a unique space to spend quality time with loved ones can far outweigh the cost.

Sunroom

Adding a sunroom to your home is an easy and cost-effective way to add square footage to your home. According to Scallon Custom Homes, the cost of adding a sunroom can be expected to start around $1,500. The bonus of adding a sunroom is the windows will allow a ton of natural light into your home, while allowing you to enjoy the outdoors and the beautiful backyard you worked so hard on, all year long. A sunroom can be as simple as a screened porch, or one enclosed in glass will allow you to soak in the outdoors for three seasons of the year, typically the warmer ones. A four-season sunroom is heated, allowing for more time spent in your new addition. The addition of a four-season room can be very costly, so seriously consider which option is best for your home.

Mudroom

A mudroom can easily be added to a home in unused space in the garage, right inside a door or any hallway. According to Savvy Mom, a mudroom offers a place to wipe off the mud from your shoes and leave daily essentials like shoes and purses without cluttering up the interior of the home. A mudroom can be one of the cheapest additions to the home, with costs mainly going to lumber for seating and storage. Of course, if adding on an additional room for the new space, expect to spend about $100 a square foot. Be careful not to spend too much on a room meant for messiness.

If funds are available, it is always a good idea to invest in your home by adding additional square footage. Find what new room will fit your needs the best and get to work on a space that will bring you and your family joy.
